We are proud to be a Bronze level Wild School!
To achieve our silver accreditation, we are focusing on three priority areas: installing bat boxes, creating a dead hedge and building a second, larger wildlife pond.
Our Eco-Team
At Newbold Church School we have 14 students who make up our Eco-Team, with representatives from each year group, from Year 6 to Year 1. Our current Eco team members are: Kitai, Harry, Jax, Evie, Matilda, Oscar, Leo, Effie, Gabriel, Mia, Jacob, Isla B and Millie.
These children were voted to represent classes by peers, following their presentation about why they should be chosen, and why they felt passionate about this role.
They meet regularly to discuss issues raised by pupils or staff, to continue to promote the eco-schools agenda and help to make our school a more eco-friendly place.
Our Eco Code
Nurture – nurture all our nature areas to ensure they thrive.
Cherish – cherish all the time we can spend in our biodiverse grounds with our wildlife.
Succeed – succeed in protecting our school’s green areas and our wildlife.
Our Campaigns
Cut Your Carbon: As part of our work to reduce our carbon footprint we joined the Eco-Schools Cut
Your Carbon campaign in November 2025. Our Eco-warriors introduced this to the school for the children to challenge their footprint at home as well as at school. Our overall carbon footprint reduction was 2097.12 kgCO2e. Our biggest area area of impact was ditching the drive, which fits in well with our WOW campaign too! The full impact report can be read here.
The Big Plastic Count: In March 2026, we counted our plastic waste for one week as part of an
investigation into different types of plastic waste and where they go once thrown away. We were shocked to find out just how much plastic is produced and wasted across the UK. You can read the full report here.
The Great Big School Clean: In March 2026, we took part in the Great Big School Clean, collecting
bag of litter from our school grounds. In total over 70,000 students across the UK collected 452,938 bags of litter. Since then, our Eco team have been keeping on top of litter picking, taking time at break and dinner to ensure our grounds are kept tidy.
Bottle Top Recycling:
SchoolCycled is an initiative by MYGroup, designed to educate the next generation about recycling, ecosystems and
sustainability. Our families are encouraged to collect plastic bottle caps and send them into school. For every 1 kilo of bottle caps sent back to MYGroup we earn 250 Earth Tokens. Those tokens can be exchanged for furniture, play equipment, signage or other recycled plastic products from MYGroup. MYGroup shred the mixed plastics and make them into 100% recycled boards that are transformed into products. Find out more here.
What is Eco-Schools?
"In our experience young people care deeply about environmental issues and have a strong desire to actively protect our planet.
The Eco-Schools programme empowers young people to make a difference in their school, local community and beyond. Since 1994, millions of young people around the world have worked through the Eco-Schools Seven Steps before being recognised for their efforts with a prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag.
To achieve an Eco-Schools Green Flag, schools, colleges or nurseries have to work on three of the Eco-Schools Ten Topics. These topics have been chosen to combat a variety of global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss and plastic pollution (see below). Head over to our topic pages to be inspired by examples from Early Years, Primary and Secondary settings and to view the topic questions asked on the Eco-Schools Green Flag application form."
